Inflatable canopy at Design Miami
For this year’s Design Miami/, Brooklyn-based design firm Snarkitecture created a levitating adaptation of the white vinyl tent for a festival entrance pavilion.
Drift uses inflated white tubes, bundled to create a porous ceiling that lets in sunshine and air, creating a mountainous form on the outside and a softly lit cavern within.
‘Filtered light passes between the tubes of the inverted landscape creating a space both interactive and contemplative’, the designers say.
The tubes are also used as cushy seating for visitors, and a landmark that can be seen for blocks. The result is half-stalactite, half-fun house that looks particularly cool and comfortable next to the swaying palm trees.
